Several years ago, some of our church leaders took us in a new direction, separating the identity of our church as a congregation from the church as a building. First Congregational Church was the group of people who worshipped together and the building they owned and used became known as the Center of Life.
In this Center of Life, there is much life. Consider what lives pass through our doors:
In our building nine congregations worship: Alta Pasa Church, River of Life, The Lord's Church, Fuller Chapel, Mosaic Pasadena, Adventist International, Wholicare Community Missionary Church, Los Angeles Church of Christ, and First Congregational Church. Here congregations live, reaching out to people and ministering in many ways.
Because we have opened our doors to others:
Friends Outside works with families of inmates and their incarcerated members;
LACAAW (Los Angeles Commission on Assault Against Women) works to eliminate violence against women and children;
The Music Circle presents the classical arts of India;
The Depot (affiliated with Union Station Foundation) offers showers and shelter for homeless women and children;
The Corrective Behavior Institute holds Saturday classes for "at risk" teenagers;
Pasadena Art Alliance works to support artists, exhibitions, educational programs, and art organizations;
Institute for Asian Missions supports missionary work in Asia and educate seminarians here;
I Am Foundation works to put an end to domestic violence;
Vernon Lee Gymnastics Academy offers children quality instruction with a team approach;
Pasadena Junior Theater helps children explore and develop their imagination, talent and self-esteem;
Soledad Enrichment Program educates and supports youth in our community;
Ten different 12-step groups help people regain control of their lives.
What goes on inside this old building will have a profound effect on the future of many lives. Young and old and in-between are nurtured here. This building is a "Center of Life" for many in our community.
